Introduction to Data Assimilation for Scientists and Engineers

Given a stationnary flow in an open channel,  a hydraulic jump is moving upstream when a downstream gate is abruptly closed. One can then measure the water height at the closed gate. Combined with the knowledge of the inital stationnary flow, on can computer the jump velocity with this measurement.
